Well, I feel as if it has been ages since I posted my last blog and that I am now very behind in letting you all know what I've been doing etc. My apologies to those who are awaiting the next instalment with bated breath (is there anyone in that category?) I have discovered that whilst hotels may advertise free Wi-Fi, that doesn't mean you can access it easily. Even in Cancun (the party town on the Caribbean sea) at a reasonably modern hotel, internet was difficult to access and seemed to depend on where you were sitting in the foyer!! I never did manage to keep a good enough signal to post photos etc. Some places, like Tikal in Guatemala only had electricity from 6 am to 10 am and again from 6 pm to 10 pm. Wi-Fi was available occasionally, but very intermittently. However, Tikal has the excuse of being in the jungle. Other places, Wi-Fi was available but after very full days of activities, getting back late, foraging for food, washing etc, I was simply too tired to think straight to manage putting a blog together. We also had some early morning starts to get to places before the "regular tourists" arrived. This was much to our advantage from time to time and helped with the heat factor in some places as well. We also sometimes managed to get photo opportunities that seemed like we had places to ourselves!
Today, 22/03/2013, I have arrived in Dallas for my stop over before travelling to Spain tomorrow to take up the next phase of my adventure - language school in Salamanca!
This means, that given I will have a settled address for the next 6 weeks, with regular (and hopefully stable) Wi-Fi access, I should be able to not only catch up on my recent adventures in Mexico, Belize and Guatamala, but keep up to date with any interesting incidents, accidents or adventures. I have some wonderful photos to share so please stay tuned for the next exciting episode!!!
Chau,
Frances
Have enjoyed reading your blog tonight, Frances! We certainly have much to be grateful for here in Australia, when you talk about dodgy wifi and power connected at certain times of the day.... but it makes for an interesting experience! Glad you made it safely to Dallas airport - we liked it there too. Good luck with your next journey to Spain - can't wait to read all about it!
