Don Quijote to Gaudi Part 4 - Madman or Genius

Girona - gateway to all things Dali.

From Girona we travelled north to the coast to have an close encounter of the Dali kind. A must see in this part of the world is the Dali museum. This museum houses many of his works, both paintings, sculptures, jewellery and furniture etc. He had a hand in many things artistic (or weird). Whilst I'm not overly a fan of Dali, I did find his use of colour very interesting and some of his work has a strange compelling quality. The museum is a surreal experience with the building being a typical Dali invention both is construction and layout. Dali actually designed the museum and left it as his gift to the city I believe. There are hoards of tourists so if you go, be prepared to wait in line. We visited with a large group of French school children. They were a very enthusiastic bunch!

A quick word about Girona - it is a lovely old city with an interesting old town. We had a lovely walk around after dropping off the car. Along the river there are houses that jetty out over the edge of the river, kind of like Venice in miniature, I suppose. It is a lovely place to visit.

After visiting the museum, we decided to drive to Cadaques, the place that inspired Dali.
Cadaques is a very pretty little sea side village where Dali lived for many years. His house (actually several fishing huts/cabins that he and his wife bought), house a museum as well. We couldn't go inside as there were no tickets left but we really enjoyed walking around the town and the Casa Dali. The coast is spectacular and seen on a lovely sunny afternoon, seems an idyllic place.
